My personal trials became the catalyst for imparting true change in the real estate industry. It is my mission to help as many people as I can avoid the same mistakes I made, creating lasting positive change.
It was such an exciting time as I began the process of purchasing my dream home. Little did I know that this milestone would soon morph into a nightmare of unforeseen challenges and daunting obstacles. From misguided advice to unexpected hurdles, my home buying experience quickly spiraled into chaos.
When I began looking for homes, one thing I knew I wanted was an inground pool to spend time with my family and friends. One day, my real estate agent called and said they had found the perfect home. It was recently flipped, meaning everything in the home looked beautiful. And it had the pool I was adamant about getting. So, I jumped in, trusting my agent to guide me through the process.
For a long time leading up to this, I had rented, and for good reason. In 2000, after moving to Ohio from California and establishing roots here, I purchased my first home. However, I found out just a year later that the bank I had my loan through wasn’t an official bank. The mortgage I thought I had didn’t exist. What was supposed to be an incredible milestone rapidly unraveled into a 7-year-long legal battle, with my home ensnared in it.
Every day was a struggle, a constant fear that my home might be taken away. Through this time, I experienced what true housing insecurity feels like. As a mother with four kids to care for, I did everything I could to ensure we were prepared for the future. Thankfully, we were able to settle—I owed nothing, and I was able to sell the house. From then on, I rented. As you can imagine, I had my hesitations about going through the buying process again.
When I was finally ready, I wanted to invest my money into a property I truly loved—my dream home. Unfortunately, things didn’t go exactly as I had planned. The issues were endless, flaws hidden by the beautiful features of the home. Normally, a home would undergo inspection, but our real estate agent advised us to skip that step because everything was “brand new.” This ended up being a costly mistake, resulting in over $100,000 in unforeseen repairs.
But amidst the chaos and frustration, a spark of inspiration ignited within me. I realized that this ordeal was not just a personal struggle but a call to action. It was a wake-up call to the dire need for proper guidance and support in the real estate industry. We bought our home in 2017, and within the same year, I received my real estate license.
Having worked at Lexus for nearly a decade, I juggled both jobs, working tirelessly to help as many people as I could. By 2020, I was able to transition full-time to real estate. Through years in the automobile industry, I honed my customer service skills and problem-solving abilities, giving me the perfect foundation to build a trustworthy business in real estate. My branch office is a space I've created to be a destination agency—a place where people find not just a REALTOR® but a dedicated partner in their homeownership journey. I want to set new industry standards, demonstrating the power of a client-centric approach.
Three out of my four kids are now homeowners, and my daughter, Marissa, works with me in real estate. I’m so proud of all of them. As I reflect on this journey, I am reminded of the unwavering support of my loved ones, who have stood by me through thick and thin. My family—my rock and my inspiration—has been the driving force behind my pursuit of excellence in my personal and professional life. It is their love and unwavering belief in me that has propelled me forward, even in the face of adversity.
Through the challenging experiences I had purchasing my own properties, the one thing I wished for the most was for someone to guide me. If I had someone in my corner, someone I could ask questions to and entrust to protect my best interests, then I could have avoided long, costly mistakes. In real estate, I set high industry standards for myself, doing everything in my power to prepare and protect my clients.
Being an advocate for my clients is at the core of my service. I’m not here to push you one way or another but instead to provide the information, resources and support needed to make educated investment decisions that align with your goals. Your confidence and understanding are paramount, and I am dedicated to ensuring a seamless, informed and empowering journey in your real estate endeavors. When the transaction is over, I remain a committed partner on your journey, here to provide any guidance needed in this new chapter!
Sincerely,
Shannon Bauer
